My marvellous Kent Claret vine ... I bought it from Victoriana Nursery to keep my ever-faithful calendulas company. Friend Wendy recommends the grapes for grape jelly.

Happy harvesting … my Great Auntie Bee's watercolour of farming life as it used to be, painted in 1950.

The creative mind in action … Coppicing days, Pheasants Coppice, Bishopsbourne.

History …In the garden of Serre de la Madonne, Menton. Seems I wasn’t the only admirer.

Happy birthday! ... My 50th Birthday Party 9th September 2010 at Jenny's, also with Hilda, Becca, Vittorio, Robin and Yvonne and Bianca - Caprese Michelangelo, Toscana. A very special day.

Birthday girl ... Mrs G picking flowers on the morning of her 80th Birthday, a few seconds before she realised that I had arrived.

The magic of March was not really the wild stormy conditions that overtured the first few days of this marvellous month. It's the sudden change that occurs in parks and garden, as Nature seems to rebel against the drabness of winter.

Crocuses make their appearance in early Spring and remind us of the magic that is waiting out there in our gardens, putting in their magical appearance even as the sun struggles to return to our latitudes.

Here's Robert Graham's new poem for a new year.

A cheering thought by Roberto for December and its Christmas roses which winter's briefer days hide too soon in our gardens.

Take Roberto's latest poem with you on your next visit to the beach. You might carry these lines in your head, or perhaps you have them printed from the PDF attached.

Back by popular demand, here is Roberto's verse about the Busker. You can't visit London without seeing him if you travel by train, over or under the capital. He's almost a daily entertainer on the rails, and on platforms, in the huge station foyers, even outside stations, too, almost in all weather.

My niece Katherine was born on 14th June 1990. There was a heatwave at the time ... one hundred and twelve seasons ago... Happy Birthday, K!
